Description
Mers mate for life and the union is taken very seriously, therefore the courtship is long and sometimes complicated. Sometime the union courtship (the mer version of a proposal) can take days, though it depends on the breeds of both mers. During this courtship, the two mers stay close to each other, males become more protective of the maid, often pick fights with other males in her presence (Playful for real, either one will do), usually hunt rare or difficult prey and present to her as a gift, (as well as other bobbles, usually these differ depending on the breed.) and play/dance with her.
Meanwhile, females become more playful with the merman, (who will be more willing to play with them during this time.)
will become more aggressive towards other males who try and flirt with them. (These ain't prissy disney princess mermaids bro. These water chicks have claws and teeth for a reason!) they also just become all round closer.
Eventually, the two become mates officially, and are publicly seen as a pair for life.

I do agree that this is a sweet scene.
(I can kinda imagine the young ones trying to find a future lover.....if seals and sea lions are anything to go by......)
